The Apple HomePod was first unveiled to the world at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2017. Since then, there has been much speculation regarding the launch of this smart speaker. The Apple HomePod is being touted by tech aficionados around the world as Apple’s answer to the Google Home and the Amazon Echo, and the world is waiting with bated breath to see how it measures up against the already existing giants in the market. After much speculation, it has been announced by Apple that the HomePod will be released in December 2017
However, it will not be released all over the world at the same time, although the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States of America will be the first ones to get their hands on the speaker, as per usual. It seems as though Australia has won the race of being the strongest market for Apple products, for the Apple HomePod is going to be launched first down under.
The exact date for the release of the Apple HomePod in Australia has not yet been declared. However, we do know that while it will launch in December in Australia, the nation will be able to get their hands on it a few days before the other parts of the world.
How pricey is it?
The Apple HomePod is being touted by many as one of the pricier options in the smart speaker market. Its US price is billed at $349, which is approximately twice the price of the Google Home and the Amazon Echo. In Australian currency, the price should be $469, converted from USD, but will probably be around $499, and might even touch the $549 mark, according to some speculations. The increase in price is calculated after adjusting for currency conversion, GST, import taxes, and various other costs that are associated with importing a product.

The Apple HomePod is certainly a big step for the technology company. It is its first foray into the smart speaker market, and the marketing and buzz generated around its release prove that Apple is hoping big returns from its latest offering. It does have pretty big competitors to handle- the Amazon Echo and the Google Home have been there for some time and have garnered loyal followers. All said and done, however, Apple has its own market, and has never let its users down in the past. Only time will tell whether it lives up to its reputation or not.
